Assignment Drop Boxes

While Canvas uses the term “Assignments” (instead of “Drop Box”) to refer to a location within a course to which students can submit course work, the principle is the same. In this workshop, participants will learn how to create assignment drop boxes, modify advanced options for an assignment, and create assignment columns in the grade book to record grades for work submitted offline.

Canvas Basics Online

This online workshop provides instruction on the basic features of Canvas and is prerequisite to obtaining a Canvas account. Workshop registration takes place in Spyglass. To receive SPD credit you must register for the workshop through Spyglass and complete the training within the semester in which you registered. To register please follow the steps below:

  1. After logging into Spyglass, select the “Register” button from the list on the left
  2. Scroll down to the Spring semester section and select  ”S” – EMPLOYEE SPD, and click the “Continue” button.
  3. Type the workshop section number 9852 in the Section # box and click the “Add Now” button.
  4. The course number (D 00611) will show in the Trial Schedule window.
  5. Click the “Confirm” button.
  6. After registering for the workshop in Spyglass, click here and complete the enrollment form. This last step will add you to the course and create your practice course shell.

Copying Course Content

There are several ways content can be copied from one Canvas course into another. This workshop will cover several different options for copying course content, how to use content from a master course shell, and when a course reset is necessary.

Grade Book

In this workshop participants will learn how to create a Canvas grade book, set up a points-based or percentage-based grade scheme, use the Assignments Manager to organize assignment groupings, record grades and comments using SpeedGrader, set up a course grading scale, and explore some additional grade book settings.

Modules

Canvas “Modules” are where course content is organized and presented to students. In this workshop participants will learn how to manage the Modules section of a Canvas course including rearranging content, using the draft state, setting availability dates, and adding prerequisite and completion criteria.

Quizzes

In this workshop, participants will learn how to create, edit, manage, and administer online student assessments using the Quiz tool in Canvas. Participants will also learn about the college’s online test proctoring policy and options for implementation.
